Most people know that my favorite color is green. I did like the bedroom color, however, we have a love seat from my grandma that I reupholstered years ago in a blue–yellow–cream colored upholstery fabric. It was in our bedroom in Waterford and we wanted it in our bedroom here as well. So, the green had to go.
The carpet was disgusting! (I will never understand why people put carpet in their homes) The heaters would be gone as well. We will eventually add a mini-split to the room for heat/air. No ducts!

Prepping
Andy removed the old fan. I spackled holes and removed baseboard, tack strips, and nails.

Paint Room
The room was temporarily used as a paint room for closet cabinets (see blog #3: Closets) and a new exterior door for our house in Waterford before putting it on the market (orange paint). Andy used a sprayer, so there was a dusting of blue on everything. (Notice the floor in the pic)

Priming/Painting
We primed and painted the ceiling, floor, and upper portions of the walls. We would later be installing wainscoting on the green areas. This would be done after the window install.

Flooring
The flooring is the same from the guest bedroom (see blog #11: Guest Bedroom) and would also continue into the hallway and closet, eventually. It is from Floor and Decor: Brookview Grey Multi-length Water Resistant Laminate, and used a premium underlayment for noise reduction in the kitchen below.
We covered and protected the flooring immediately for the window install and eventually the wainscoting.

New Windows, Wallpaper, and Wainscoting
The new windows were installed (see blog #4: Siding & Windows Pt. 1), so we could now continue work in the bedroom.
The wainscoting was going to be dark blue, so I wanted the feature wall to tie all the colors of the room together. I selected a chevron pattern purchased from Amazon: Timeet Blue Gold peel & stick wallpaper. This wallpaper tore easily, so it's a good thing I ordered extra!
Andy began adding trim around the windows, then installing MDF panels on the walls. This was easier than fixing the existing walls and it gave us a nice, smooth finish.

Wainscoting Pt. 2
Andy continued to install MDF panels and trim. I continued priming and painting.

Wainscoting Grid
The wainscoting grid was now being installed. This is an enamel paint. It takes three coats, minimum. You can see what one coat looks like here.

We originally planned on closing off the area above the room entrance for storage, so it didn't get painted when the rest of the room was painted. We decided against closing it off. So I painted that along with touch ups to finish off the room. (And, as you can see, the room quickly turned into a storage room… for the next 14 months!!!)

Principal Bedroom Completed
It would be 14 months before we emptied the room and added furniture. We used it for storage for what would eventually go into the upstairs bathroom and guest bedroom. (See the Guest Bedroom Blog #11 and the future Bathroom blog)
