Farmhouse

Our northern Michigan adventure

The Farmhouse

The farmhouse sits on two acres, surrounded by open fields and woods. We have many neighbors, but only one visible neighbor, directly across the street.

Secluded (but close to everything)

When on the property, you feel secluded, as if you're living out in the country, in the middle of no where, but we are less than a mile from Burt Lake, nine minutes to Indian River, twenty minutes to Petoskey and Harbor Springs (including our ski area, Nubs Nob), as well as about thirty minutes from the Mackinac Bridge.

The Main Bathroom

We began renovations with the main bathroom.

The bathroom tile reminded me of that ugly turquoise tile in every Menard's bathroom, as well as some rest area bathrooms. The vanity was very long and the wainscoting too short. The shower enclosure was in good condition, but not bright white.

We ended up gutting the bathroom: vanity, toilet, tile, wainscoting. We did leave the shower enclosure and plan on eventually spraying it with a white epoxy product.

Main Bath Renovation

We traveled up north weekly and did the renovations one day a week, for months, as we were still working at the time down state.

We decided to go with a gray and white palette for the bathroom.

Andy put in his first tile installation ever on the floor (he was not very happy with my mosaic tile selection) He did a great job!

Andy installed a new custom wainscoting and vinyl tiles, with a custom wood grid. Woodworking is his specialty!

I did all the painting. My renovation specialty!

  • The tile is from Floor and Decor.
  • The vanity and mirror are from IKEA.
  • The shower curtain and vinyl tiles are from Wayfair.
  • The craftsman door is from The Home Depot
  • The deer hooks are from Amazon
  • The shelf is from At Home
